brief

Harlequin approached us to create a print and radio campaign that would help boost sales of the latest novel by one of their leading authors, Debbie Macomber. Their ultimate goal was to get the book, “Twenty Wishes”, to #5 on the New York Times bestseller list, though Debbie had never topped #7.

Solution

Along with the traditional print and radio campaign, we created a website called SetYourWishFree.com, inspired by “Twenty Wishes”. The novel follows the lives of four friends who make wish lists for themselves and encourage one another to fulfill them. SetYourWishFree.com is an ethereal world on-line where people can send their wishes out to the universe. Once at the site, they enter their wish, then blow on a dandelion and watch the seeds float away. They are also able to view other people’s wishes.
We were told that the author, Debbie Macomber, believes that if you send your wish out there, it will come true. This quote from Debbie was a perfect way to segue to her new book and connect people back to Debbie’s own website.

Results

Two weeks after the site launched, 13,000 people had posted their wishes on-line. To date, there have been 20,404 wishes posted. Target doubled their projected sales and Twenty Wishes climbed all the way to #3 on the New York Times Bestseller list, exceeding the client’s expectations.
